Crown Estate Scotland has awarded option agreements to 17 projects, totalling almost 25 GW in its ScotWind offshore wind lease auction.

Analysis from these 17 projects shows that 11 will be floating wind projects, with a total of 15 GW or 61% of the total leases awarded to floating offshore wind projects.

The ScotWind seabed lease auction may well be viewed in the coming years as a turning point for floating wind as these numbers indicate a substantial uptick in activity and a massive scaling-up of capacity.

Vidi Energy‘s ready-to-float floating offshore wind technology will be available to the market from mid-2025 onwards and is well positioned to supply the projects being developed out of this ScotWind announcement.

The company’s mass-assembly and continuous production hubs using lean manufacturing techniques, will not only push down the cost of energy but will also allow for a quicker construction schedule.
